ReciScan Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Getting Started & Account

What is ReciScan?+

ReciScan helps you turn recipes into printed cookbooks you can keep, gift, fundraise with, or sell. Scan or add recipes in the mobile app, organize your book, preview it, and place print orders. You can also generate sharable recipe images and videos for social media with easy import codes included so others can quickly bring recipes into ReciScan.

Is ReciScan free?+

The ReciScan app is free to use. You will be prompted for payment if you choose to print your book with our printing service. Monthly subscribers also get special benefits, including the option to invite recipe contributors, ability to upload custom book covers and a deep discount off of every printed book!

How do I scan a recipe card?+

There is a convenient 'New Recipe' button right on the main screen. You can add recipes by scanning with your phone's camera, importing uploaded photos, pasting website URLs, using text from your clipboard, or entering recipes manually.

Can I upload custom covers for my cookbook?+

Yes, subscribers have the option to upload custom book covers. Our books are 6:9 and the printing process works best with high-resolution images. We recommend 1850x2775 pixels.

What file formats are supported for recipe photos or custom covers?+

We recommend JPG or PNG images. Cookbook covers should be 1850x2775 pixels. Images of a different size will be scaled and cropped to fit.

Can I add notes or personal stories to my recipes?+

There is a section for personal notes for each recipe. Users can also add a Preface and 'About the Author' section along with a photo of the author.

How do I change the PDF viewer that shows the cookbook on my phone?+

ReciScan only generates the PDF file itself, your device decides what PDF viewer to display it with based on your iOS or Android configuration choices.

What happens to my recipes if I cancel my subscription?+

Your recipes stay in your phone and you can still order cookbooks. However, you will no longer receive the subscriber discount on printed books and will no longer have the ability to upload custom covers or receive shared recipes.

I scanned a recipe card, but it doesn't seem quite right. Why?+

We use artificial intelligence to transcribe and interpret your recipe cards. AI has advanced a lot in recent years, but it still isn't perfect. There is still a good chance that AI won't understand what the written words on your recipe card are trying to say, or the app itself may not have the options to support your instructions. If you have suggestions, please do email support@reciscan.app!

I have a feature/idea that I'd like to see added. Can you make it?+

Shoot us an email at support@reciscan.app and we'll see what we can do!

Sharing & Contributors

How do I invite someone to contribute to my cookbook?+

Subscribers can invite recipe contributors with a Share Code (found at the top of the app menu). Contributors can submit from the ReciScan app with your Share Code, or from the web using your Add Recipe link: https://reciscan.app/addRecipe/<your share code>.

Can I share my recipes with others?+

Yes. If you have been invited to contribute to a ReciScan subscriber's cookbook, you can submit with their Share Code in the app, or through the web at https://reciscan.app/addRecipe/<share code>. You can also generate sharable recipe images and videos for social media from the app, and those shares can include easy import codes for quick recipe import into ReciScan.

How can contributors submit recipes without installing the app?+

Use your public Add Recipe link: https://reciscan.app/addRecipe/<your share code>. Contributors can submit directly from a browser.

Printing, Shipping & Reprints

What is the cost of printing a cookbook?+

Printing cost depends on page count, binding type, color vs black-and-white interior, quantity, and shipping option. As a rough estimate, a typical 50-page black-and-white book is about $18, and about $13 for subscribers. You can see exact pricing in the app before checkout.

What binding types do you support, and what are the page limits?+

ReciScan currently supports:
  • Paperback Coil Bound: 5 to 470 pages
  • Paperback Saddle Stitch: 5 to 48 pages
  • Paperback Perfect Bound: 32 to 800 pages
  • Hardcover Casewrap: 24 to 800 pages

Is there a limit to the number of recipes I can add?+

There is no strict recipe-count limit, but printed books must stay within the page limits of the selected binding. Current maximum pages are: Paperback Coil Bound (470), Paperback Saddle Stitch (48), Paperback Perfect Bound (800), and Hardcover Casewrap (800).

How long does it take to receive a printed cookbook?+

Shipping times vary by location and your selected shipping option, but delivery is typically around 14 days on average. After your book ships, you will receive an email with a tracking link. For in-app progress updates as your order moves through the process, enable notifications and check 'Book Orders' from the app menu.

I ordered a book, when will it arrive?+

The latest shipping information should be available in the app. Click the menu button (three horizontal lines in the top right) and go to 'Book Orders'.

How do I reprint a book if it is no longer in the app?+

Use the web portal reprint flow and have your original Order ID from your receipt ready. If a past order no longer appears in your app history and you cannot locate your Order ID, contact support@reciscan.app and we can help recover it.

Why don't you ship to my region/country?+

We want to! Please email support@reciscan.app and we'll get it added!

Seller Portal & Fundraising

Can I collect cookbook reservations before the book is printed?+

Yes. Create a verified ReciScan Portal account, open Preorders, and create a pledge campaign. A campaign does not need a printed book, Order ID, Stripe account, or storefront. Full walkthrough: Fundraiser Pledge Guide.

Does a preorder pledge charge the supporter?+

No. A public pledge is a reservation of interest, not an online purchase. ReciScan records the supporter and requested quantity, but does not ask for payment information or charge a card. The organizer is responsible for final pricing, payment collection, printing, pickup, delivery, and supporter communication.

Is the price on a pledge campaign guaranteed?+

No. It is labeled as the expected price per copy. Organizers should estimate carefully and tell supporters if the final price, printing schedule, pickup, or delivery plan changes before collecting payment.

What happens when a pledge deadline passes?+

At the end of the selected deadline date, the public campaign page remains available but automatically removes the pledge form and stops accepting new public pledges. Campaign details and totals remain visible. The Portal status remains Live until the organizer changes it to Closed.

How can a supporter change a pledge?+

Each email address can submit one public pledge per campaign. To change the quantity or contact details, the supporter should email the public campaign contact. The organizer can edit the existing pledge in the Portal.

How are pledge payments tracked?+

Organizers can record the amount collected and mark pledges unpaid, partially paid, paid, waived, or cancelled. These are organizer-maintained records for money collected outside ReciScan; ReciScan does not receive or verify those payments.

Can I export my campaign pledges?+

Yes. The Pledges tab can export supporter contact details, quantities, balances, and statuses to CSV. Use exported personal information only to administer and fulfill the campaign, store it securely, and delete copies when they are no longer needed.

Can my pledge campaign collect recipes too?+

Yes. Enter the cookbook's ReciScan Share Code in the campaign's Recipe Collection tab. ReciScan generates the public Add Recipe URL and can display an Add a Recipe button on the campaign page.

Can a closed pledge campaign send people to my storefront?+

Yes. After Stripe payouts are enabled and a storefront has been saved, enable the storefront option in Campaign Setup. Once the campaign is closed or expired and the storefront has at least one enabled book, the public campaign page displays a button to the organizer's storefront.

How do I start selling my cookbook through ReciScan?+

Create a portal account at /portal, complete your profile, click 'Become a Seller', accept the seller agreement, and connect Stripe for payouts. Then set up your storefront and add a printed book. Full walkthrough: Seller Guide.

Do I need a printed book before I can add it to my storefront?+

Yes. To list a book in your storefront, you need the Order ID from a successful printed book order.

Can I sell any past cookbook I already printed in the app?+

In most cases, yes. You can list previously printed cookbooks as long as you have an eligible completed order ID for that book.

How do payouts work in the Seller Portal?+

Seller payouts are handled through Stripe Connect. During onboarding, you connect your bank account through Stripe, and Stripe deposits your available payout balance based on your Stripe payout schedule.

What is my profit on a storefront sale?+

Your profit is the markup you set for that book, multiplied by the quantity sold.

Can buyers check out without creating a ReciScan account?+

Yes. Storefront pages are public, and buyers can complete checkout as guests without creating a ReciScan account.

Can I use ReciScan for fundraising?+

Yes. There is no required fundraiser sequence: you can run an optional no-payment pledge campaign to measure demand before printing, place and fulfill a bulk order without pledges, sell a successfully printed book through a paid storefront, or combine these paths. See the process and profit calculator in the Fundraiser Guide.
